What were your goals for college admission? Did you accomplish them?
My overall goal for college admission was to be able to choose my school on my terms. I knew several people that chose to go to a certain college because that was the only option they had, whether it was the only one they were accepted to or the only one they were able to afford. I wanted to be able to choose which college I went to without any barriers impacting my decision. With the help of Hughes College Prep, I was accepted to all of the schools that I applied to and I was able to secure several scholarships at those schools. I was able to decide which school I would attend solely based on where I wanted to go.
What was most helpful about working with Hughes College Prep?
The most helpful thing about Hughes College Prep was their willingness to cater their services to me and what I needed at the time. I began working with Chenoa during my junior year of high school. At the beginning, my sessions with Chenoa were based around studying and preparing for the ACT. As time progressed, my sessions changed from ACT prep to college applications, to scholarship applications, and finally to college decision making. I was able to stay with Chenoa throughout my whole time with Hughes College Prep making the transition from each stage of the college process seamless and very easy.
What was the biggest surprise, good or bad, about the admissions process in general?
The biggest thing that surprised me during the admissions process was the amount of deadlines you have to worry about. If Chenoa wasn’t keeping track of all of my deadlines for me, I am sure I would have missed at least half of them.
Were you accepted to one of your top three school choices?
I applied to 10 schools across the country and was accepted to all 10 schools.
Did you feel supported by Hughes College Prep during the admission process? If so, how?
I felt extremely supported by Hughes College Prep during my admission process. Chenoa was with me every step of the way and I know I wouldn’t have been accepted to half the schools I got into if it wasn’t for her. It was always so exciting to share with them that you got accepted to one of your dream schools because they were just as happy as you were.
What surprised you most about working with Hughes College Prep?
I was really surprised with how student led Hughes College Prep is. Right before my first session with Chenoa, I was thinking, “Oh great, I’m going to have to sit here and do everything this lady tells me to for an hour.” To my surprise, it was nothing like that at all. All of my sessions with Chenoa were led by what I wanted to accomplish. Yes, Chenoa was there to lead me in the right direction but ultimately it was up to me how our sessions went and what I accomplished.
What is one bit of advice you would give to parents of college-bound students?
My advice to parents of college-bound students is to get your student started early. I know it may seem expensive but this is probably one of the best investments you can make in your student. The price of Hughes College Prep is tiny compared to the amount of money I received in scholarships to my dream colleges with their help. It really gave me a leg up on the admission process and kept me organized.
What is one bit of advice you would give to the students themselves?
I would advise students to really take what the tutors at Hughes College Prep are saying
seriously. They are the experts at the whole college application process and they really know
what they are talking about.
